Lust and Found: A Story of Broken Public Trust

Posted by Alice Stewart in Politics , Gov. Mark Sanford

Now that we've picked up our jaw after watching South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford give his emotional tale of sex, lies, e-mails, and "Don't Cry for me Argentina," it's time to see where the chips are going to fall.  I do believe that a politician's private life should not be subject to the public spotlight, but the dereliction of his public duties is a concern.

After his seven-day ‘lust and found' trip, Gov. Sanford held a news conference to admit and apologize for an affair with a woman in Argentina.  "I've been unfaithful to my wife. I've let down a lot of people. That's the bottom line," Gov. Sanford said.

Prayers go out to Gov. Sanford's wife and family.  What they do with their marriage is their business.  The business of the state is another matter.

A current poll on South Carolina's "The State" newspaper's website shows that 68% of readers want Gov. Sanford to leave office, 32% say no.

Nancy Pelosi Owes America an Apology... and the Truth

Posted by Alice Stewart in President Obama , Politics , Nancy Pelosi

The quarterback of the Central Intelligence Agency says he doesn't want his agency to be a pawn in a game of political football; it's too late, Democrats have been tackling the CIA for months and President Obama is not willing to toss a penalty flag.

It's difficult to say which is more troubling, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi playing a game of CYA at the expense of the CIA, or President Obama's continued support as she calls members of the intelligence agency liars.  Either way, Republicans say it's time for Nancy Pelosi to put up or shut up, after she apologizes of course.

The primary mission of the CIA is "to collect, evaluate, and disseminate foreign intelligence to assist the president and senior US government policymakers in making decisions relating to the national security."

Presidential Performance is Not So Bright

Posted by Alice Stewart in President Obama , Politics

President Obama marks his first 100 days in office Wednesday.  This landmark day is viewed as a gauge of presidential success. While Democrats speak of Obama's performance as a shining success, I see that bright light as an oncoming train.

Candidate Obama did promise change, unfortunately Americans have gotten it.  The leader of the most powerful nation in the world embarked on a world apology tour, released secret CIA interrogation memos, and repeatedly chummed up with Hugo Chavez and other world leaders critical of the United States.  This makes America look weak and threatens our national security.

With a 62% approval rating, it's clear that many don't realize we have a superstar and not a statesman for president.  A statesman would be more concerned with American interests than backslapping our foreign enemies.
